Originally from Miami, Florida, Mikki Colon’s love for music and movement was sparked at a young age through her combined Jamaican and Black American backgrounds as well as from the diverse cultures surrounding her upbringing. She started studying dance and theatre through school and community programs and furthered her training in dance studios and on a dance team. Mikki has trained in various styles; her primary genres are Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and Afro-Caribbean styles.
With a deep love for dance and a heart for working with children, she began working as a dance instructor in 2012. Since then, Mikki has worked as a dance educator in South Florida and Central Texas and has choreographed routines for recitals, competitions, workshops, and community performances.
Mikki loves sharing her passion for dance, and she uses this fire and a dynamic, purposeful teaching style to make each class an immersive experience for each student.
Mikki taught Afro-Caribbean Fusion at South Florida Dance Company for a couple seasons before her family moved to Texas for a few years. Now that she’s back in Florida, she’s excited to be teaching the fun, high-energy class at SFDC again!
