Team SFDC Competition Team auditions are Saturday May 12th, 9:30am for the’25-’26 season! Auditions held for ages 4-19. ALL levels (1-3) and ALL experience types are welcome! This opportunity is open for current and new studio dancers. Save the date so you don’t miss out!
We continue to place our primary focus on training and technique. Recently, we realized that competing is very beneficial to the dancer and the studio. Each competition dancers are adjudicated by three to four professionals. The experience has given dancers critique that they can apply in the classroom to better their individual skills and performance quality, both of which are important in the industry.
We have always had a percentage of dancers hungry for more. Competition has given those dancers a different perspective on dance and has helped them to work harder to meet their goals.
We just finished our 4th season. This season our team placed 43 times in top 10 Overall with only 19 dances. We moved on to Believe Nationals with the smallest team present and had an impressive week! 12 out of the 16 dances we brought placed in top 10 Overall. We competed against teams from ALL over the world, including Australia. Two of our pieces were chosen to compete in the Championship showdown, we had a Title Soloist win Runner Up, multiple judges awards (our favorite being the Unified Strength Award), and two first place Overall scores. One of which earned the highest score of the day for the entire competition! Check it out here:
We are so very proud of our competition teams success. It is very exciting to stand on stage and receive an overall award, scholarship, and recognition for hard work. However, it is NEVER about winning or placing highest, it is about self reflection and motivation to be and do better as an individual and apply those corrections to better the team. Adjudication is objective. What one judge may like, another may not. These are real life lessons the dancers must experience. Whether they are pursuing a future in dance or not, it is important they learn how to appreciate professional opinion, apply correction, and keep working hard no matter what the outcome.
Today it is a dance competition, tomorrow it could be a university or company audition, an interview for a job, or an interpersonal relationship barrier. Dance, and specifically competition team dance, has given our dancers life skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. How they handle success, how they handle defeat, how they handle disappointment, are all valuable life skills experienced in competition dance. For these reasons we believe whole-heartedly in the value the experience of competing offers our dancers at SFDC. Do you have what it takes? Do you have the drive and the grit? Are you ready for that next level? If you answer yes to any of those questions, then we want you on our Team! Lets get to work and make the BEST version of YOU!
All dancers auditioning and committing to Team SFDC Competition Team must register for and take SFDC Summer Intensive
* Dancers that are not yet a part of South Florida Dance with commitments through June are not required to attend Summer Intensive the season they first audition. We understand the decision to audition for a new team while still committed elsewhere can present challenges to dancers wishing to audition for our team. We respect their prior commitments before auditioning at SFDC. However, if possible, we encourage new team members to do their best to participate in our Summer Intensive where time and prior commitment will allow.
Dancers will audition and be placed according to level (Levels 1-3) based on a rubric guideline outlined below. Each dancer’s journey is unique and leveling dancers by a skill assessed rubric at audition allows each dancer to progress at the time frame optimal for them individually while allowing them to have a positive and fair experience as a member of our team.
