Pointe – Master the technique and rise above the rest!

Pointe is an extension of Ballet training presented on the tips of the toes, made possible by specialized shoes.

There are different varieties of this work, but for the most part they all focus on grace and technique. It is commonly danced only by women.

There are different styles and brands of these shoes, also commonly referred to as toe shoes or blocked shoes, and different dancers find that one style or another may fit better. It is important that dancers be properly fit in their shoes. It can take a few attempts before finding the shoe that is right for them.

Dancers must have sufficient strength in the feet, ankle, leg, knee, and abdomen, as well as strong technical skills, before beginning pointe work. At SFDC we will not consider a dancer for this next level in training until reaching the minimum age of 12, they have been recommended by their instructor, and have completed at least on year in pre-pointe class. They must also continue attending the required amount and current level of ballet classes.
