We have hosted Team bonfires, lock-ins, weekend getaways sharing a huge rented home, game nights, and more! Save the drama for your mama! Team SFDC is a DRAMA FREE zone. We protect our uplifting and empowering environment with a zero tolerance studio wide policy for behavior. All dancers, parents, and staff are held to a strict set of policies and guidelines in essence creating an oasis studio. So if you are looking for a Team that is supportive and united, you have come to the right place! If you’ve got skills, work ethic, and a positive attitude, WE WANT YOU!
We continue to place our primary focus on training and technique. Recently, we realized that competing is very beneficial to the dancer and the studio. Each competition dancers are adjudicated by three to four professionals. The experience has given dancers critique that they can apply in the classroom to better their individual skills and performance quality, both of which are important in the industry.
We have always had a percentage of dancers hungry for more. Competition has given those dancers a different perspective on dance and has helped them to work harder to meet their goals.
Our competition team finished it’s 5th season with a BANG! We placed in ten overalls, most in top 4, throughout the season. We moved on to Showstopper Nationals and had an impressive week with 3 National 1st place Champion titles. We competed against teams from ALL over the world and won 1st place National Champion for our full team production number titled “We Are Hip Hop. Check it out here:
We are so very proud of our competition team and it’s many successes! We want to guide as many dancers as possible to be the BEST version of themselves and become legends in dance. It is very exciting to stand on stage and receive an overall award, scholarship, and recognition for hard work. However, it is NEVER about winning or placing highest, it is about self reflection and motivation to be and do better as an individual and apply those corrections to better the team. Adjudication is subjective, but it is important to remember that it is also objective. What one judge may like, another may not. These are real life lessons the dancers must experience. Whether they are pursuing a future in dance or not, it is important they learn how to appreciate professional opinion, apply correction, and keep working hard no matter what the outcome.
All dancers auditioning and committing for Team SFDC Competition Team must register for and take SFDC Summer Intensive.
* Dancers that are not yet a part of South Florida Dance can still audition to be a part of our new hip hop production number titled “Welcome to the South”. We accept new team members up through November.
So what does the audition look like? Dancers email a video audition and are placed according to level (Levels 1-3) based on a rubric guideline we have designed for optimal success. Each dancer’s journey is unique and leveling dancers by a skill assessed rubric at audition allows each dancer to progress at the time frame optimal for them individually while allowing them to have a positive and fair experience as a member of our team.
Today it is a dance competition, tomorrow it could be a university or company audition, an interview for a job, or an interpersonal relationship barrier. Dance, and specifically competition team dance, has given our dancers life skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. How they handle success, how they handle defeat, how they handle disappointment, are all valuable life skills experienced in competition dance. For these reasons we believe whole-heartedly in the value the experience of competing offers our dancers at SFDC.
